Our Mission

Quito Fragmented is an innovative project that fuses textile art, contemporary design, and Ecuadorian artisanal tradition. Our mission is to promote the preservation of the Guano knotted rug technique, boost the national handicraft market, and refocus artisanship as art.

We have been working for five years and through three collections in collaboration with artisans, creating designs and rugs to foster a circular economy of sales and production.

Meet the talented team behind Quito Fragmented.

Artisans

María Isabel Paz

Founder and director of Materia Arquitectura & Design, she leads a studio focused on architecture, interiors, art, research, and education. She holds a Master’s in Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and a Bachelor’s in Architecture from the University of Virginia. Additionally, she is a full-time professor at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito. Conceptual author of Quito Fragmented.

Camila Correa

An architect with a holistic vision that fuses design, sustainability, and the visual arts. She graduated from the Universidad San Francisco de Quito. She is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Architectural Design at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), within the Department of Explorative Architecture, with a specialization in sustainability. She was the main Design Manager for Quito Fragmented.

Borys Aguirre

An architect graduated from the Universidad San Francisco de Quito, with a minor in Performing Arts. In Architecture, he supported the design and managed communication with the artisans at Guano, facilitating the integration of traditional techniques into the project.

Martina Chiriboga

An architect who graduated from the Universidad San Francisco de Quito, she assisted with the design of carpets.

Daniel Cevallos

Architect graduated from the Universidad San Francisco de Quito with a minor in visual arts. Contributed to the design of rugs.

Adriana Betancourt

An architect graduated from the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador. She is the project manager for the Quito Fragmented project.
